A Message From the Principal

Greetings J. Garfield Jackson Academy Sr. Family!

Spring is soon upon us and as the weather begins to refresh and renew itself, it is our opportunity to do the same.  Please continue to reinforce strong study habits with your children in preparation for the state assessments that will begin in March.  The testing schedule is as follows:

Grade 3
Language Arts   March 28, 29, 30
Math            April 3, 4, 5, 6

Grade 4
Language Arts   April 18, 19, 20
Math            April 24, 25, 26, 27

Grade 5
Language Arts   May 2, 3,4
Math            May 8, 9, 10, 11

I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate some of our policies and procedures.

School begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:25 p.m.  Tardy students and students that leave early miss valuable academic time, as do students that miss too many days of school. It is important that students maximize their learning time. We pledge to maintain Jackson Academy’s commitment to providing the best possible education for your children but we can only do so with your help.

Please be reminded that Jackson Academy School is a uniform school.  Students must wear dark blue pants, skirts, or jumpers with white or light blue shirts or blouses.   Uniforms are to be worn each school day.  During physical education days, students can wear navy blue sweatpants, white T-shirt, and sneakers.  Please take a look at his/her schedule.

In collaboration with you, we will continue to provide a rewarding educational program for each and every child at J. Garfield Jackson Academy. In this endeavor, please be sure to inform our office immediately of any address and/or phone number changes.  We will continue to utilize the School Messenger system throughout the school year in order to keep you informed of important events; therefore, it is imperative that we have a working number at all times.

Newly enrolled families are invited to visit our school for a tour of our facility and receive additional information.

Our school theme is, “The Leader in All of Us”. This theme represents the capacity for all students to be a leader in their own right.  We remind our students every day of the seven important habits that will help them achieve success.

Habit 1 – Be Proactive: You’re in Charge
Habit 2 – Begin with the End in Mind: Have a Plan
Habit 3 – Put First Things First: Work First, Then Play
Habit 4 – Think Win – Win: Everyone Can Win
Habit 5 – Seek First to Understand. Then to be Understood: Listen Before you Talk
Habit 6 – Synergize: Together is Better
Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw: Balance Feels Best

We welcome your participation, input, and suggestions. Please feel free to come by the school, call, or email me at yjoseph@eastorange.k12.nj.us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Sincerely,

Ms. Joseph
