Cold and Flu Safety Information

Winter will soon be upon us. Here are some reminders regarding the seasonal cold and flu. It is important that we keep the students at Jackson Academy healthy and ready to learn. You can help by practicing the following advice both  at home and in school.

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
  • Do not share personal items
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Use your elbow if a tissue is not available
  • Be aware of the signs of the flu, which include a fever (100.4 or greater) and a cough or sore throat, a runny nose, body aches, fatigue and occasionally vomiting and diarrhea.
  • Keep sick kids at home for at least 24 hours after they are no longer ill with a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
  • Consider getting a flu shot

Allergy Season Has Arrived!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

THIS IS THE ALLERGY SEASON!!!  There have been marked increases in the number of children who are referred to the medical room early in the morning.  These students are complaining of itchy throats, ears, eyes, nose, and sneezing.  (Symptoms of seasonal allergies)

Parents must take steps to manage their child’s allergies.  Get the best treatment.  Discuss the use of a non-drowsy allergy medication with your child’s physician.

Medications and eye drops must be administered prior to coming to school and exposure to allergens.  Medications prescribed twice (2) a day can be given at home in the morning before school and in the evening.  It is not necessary to send these medications to school.

Only medications needed during school hours can be administered by the school nurse with a medication authorization form that is filled out by your physician.  Please contact the Nurse if a medication form is needed.
